Baltimore Tried To Move Up To Get Ryan
The Ravens reportedly tried to trade up in Saturday's NFL Draft in order to select quarterback Matt Ryan, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Baltimore ended up taking Joe Flacco with the eighteenth pick in the draft, and the general opinion has been that he needs some time to grow before starting as the team's quarterback.
"I think we accomplished that. Hopefully, next year at this time, we can look back on this draft and feel really good about it. I think we will," said Eric DeCosta, the Ravens' director of college scouting.
Jets Tried To Trade Up To Grab Chris Long
The Jets tried to trade up in last weekend's NFL Draft to select defensive end Chris Long, according to a report in the New York Daily News.
They couldn't come to terms with the Rams on deal for the number two selection, landing Long in St. Louis.
Jets Baker Upset Over Drafting Of TE
The New York Jets' Chris Baker is upset with the team for drafting another tight end Dustin Keller in last weekend's draft, according to ESPN.com.
Baker is the third-highest paid player on the team but doesn't seem to have much job security after watching the team trade up to grab Keller.
"I'm angry about the fact that they said, 'We're going to do something for you,' and nothing's being done," Baker said, according to the New York Post. "It doesn't make any sense. I've been here six years, and I've always done what they've asked me to do."
Record 33 Trades During NFL Draft
One thing about the NFL draft with this many trades: There were that many players that teams just simply had to have, according to an Associated Press report.
Teams this year were willing to make moves to jump the line and select the player they really wanted. A record 33 trades were made Saturday and Sunday as NFL teams tried to assemble winning rosters for the 2008 season and beyond.
